The straight or premixed green coffee is fed continuously to the roasting compartments. The insulated roaster/cooler housing contains a conveying belt by which the compartments are guided through a total of four roasting and one pre-cooling zones. A variable speed drive allows the exact control of the required roasting time ranging from 60 to 200 seconds.
The four heating zones allow the control of the heating medium flow as well as of the inlet temperatures independently. The recirculating convective heating medium is directed in a way that the coffee to be roasted will form a genuine fluidized bed: the NEPRO VORTEX® Fluidat.
A high heat transfer rate results in lower temperatures (220-270°C, 430-520°F) and shorter roasting times. Thermal destruction of valuable antioxydants and volatiles is prevented resulting in an extended product shelf-life and delicious cup quality of your connoisseur coffee.
The conveying speed of the roasting compartments controls the roasting time. Change of green coffee, blends or degree of roasts can be performed without interrupting the production. Losses by under- or overroasted coffee during start or stop of the roaster will be avoided. There is no physical damage to the coffee beans by breakage since there are no mechanical means such as agitators for conveying or mixing.
The NEPRO VORTEX® Fluidat Roaster design prevents the loss of small particles, whereas chaff and dust are separated and removed from the roast product.
The convective heating medium is recirculated so that an oxygen reduced atmosphere is achieved with a high heat transfer rate. Ambient air, rich in oxygen, is not admitted for temperature control. An even flow of effluent is directed to the catalytic or thermal afterburner system, and then released to the atmosphere.
The selection of parameters for a so called "Profile Roasting" allows an efficient control of any desired bulk density and moisture content of the final product. Video cameras monitor the roasting process. The NEPRO VORTEX® Fluidat Roasting Plants are also equipped with large inspection doors for easy service access and cleaning. All parts of the roaster which come in contact with the product during roasting are made of high quality stainless steel.
